RHS show garden 2007
In 2007, we created the “INSCAPES” garden for the RHS Spring Flower Show in Cardiff, which received a Silver Gilt medal.
The “INSCAPES” garden offered a tranquil garden space that could be created within the boundaries of a typical suburban back garden in any town.

The formal layout of the garden was softened by the loose informal nature of the planting. Central to the garden was the lawn, which offered a sense of space and a soft foil to the early flowering perennials set within the borders. To the edge of the lawn were six silver birch trees, which gave height and formed a light canopy over the whole garden. The under-planting included a mix of shrubs, ferns and early flowering perennials such as viburnum, cornus, aquilegias and geraniums. The varying tones and textures of green along with shades of blue, mauve, purple, pale yellow and white gently weaved the planting together.

A series of inter-connecting water features linked the garden together; a shallow water rill was fed from the raised pool and appeared to flow under the terrace, then under the lawn before re-emerging as it fell into the shallow pool at the front of the garden.

The garden was enclosed on two sides by bespoke oak hurdle fencing, which provided privacy and shelter, as well as a stylish backdrop to the array of textured foliage plants and the striking stainless steel sculpture.
