Two beauties

Posted on: September 2, 2010 by normanmaitland posted in News

We should have known that the moment we wrote in the previous news posting about Hampton Court Palace that we seldom get to revisit projects the chance to revisit two more projects would come along in in a trice - a bit like waiting for a bus!

The first picture shows the pitch at Bradford City FC last week after we’d worked our magic on it. The playing surface is superb  after our summer renovation work installing improved drainage, sand-slitting, Korrowing, scarifying and over seeding.

Bradfor City FC

The second picture is Rochdale FC where, within a tight window of 6 days after their last match, we Korrowed off the pitch, spread fibre reinforced rootzone  concentrate which was ameliorated with the existing surface, re-graded the levels and then drilled.

Needless to say, both clubs are delighted with the end results!

Hampton Court Palace revisited

It isn’t often that we get the chance to re-visit projects once we have completed our work – unless more work is needed! We were especially glad to be able to go back to Hampton Court Palace last week where, earlier in the year, we had undertaken extensive restoration of lawns and historic walkways in the approaches to what is one of the UK’s most important historic sites and top visitor attractions. As you can see the lawns and walkways are being kept in tip-top condition. You can read more about how we created them in this pdf file:

On the level at Loughor

Posted on: August 26, 2010 by normanmaitland posted in News

The bad weather has slightly got in the way of a promising start in the restoration of a pitch at Loughor AFC  which involves among other things sorting out a dramatic difference of 18 feet between one goal mouth and another.

A spot of bulldozing and laser levelling has done the trick and sand has been spread ready for installation of the drainage when we remobilize. After that of course there will still be much to do to create the playing surface itself.

Cowbridge comes close to completion

marking out muga at Cowbridge
There’s always a certain feeling of excitement in the air when a substantial project that you know is going to be of lasting worthwhile benefit approaches completion. Nowhere is this truer than at Cowbridge School where, as our picture shows, work has started out on marking out the multi use games areas we constructed as the final stage of a scheme which also saw the completion of the first artificial pitch in South Wales to be approved for football, hockey and rugby.

Marking out the pitch is one of the final steps in transforming the areas from slabs of tarmac to what will become facilities that are fully floodlit - catering for a range of outdoor activities by school and local community including football, rugby, tennis, netball, hockey, lacrosse and rounders. See what we mean by worthwhile?

Really moving on the MUGAs at Cowbridge

Muti use games areas at Cowbridge School

We’re making rapid progress on the creation of the multi use games areas at Cowbridge School. This picture was taken just ten days after the picture below and shows the first tarmac being laid. There is obviously still much to do but everything seems on track for completion in August.

We’ve now started work on the multi use games areas which form part of the major redevelopment at Cowbridge School.  Once completed the areas will offer facilities that are fully floodlit and which cater for a range of outdoor activities including football, rugby, tennis, netball, hockey, lacrosse and rounders. This will dramatically improve the sports offering in the area – for both pupils at the school and for the wider community – and we are proud to be a part of it.

A summer of remarkable projects

Flat out for St Helens Rugby League

img_0184.jpg
We’re hard at work this week at the St Helens training ground under a contract for which PSD are the consultants. St Helens are the most successful club of the modern era, having most recently won the Carnegie Challenge Cup Trophy three years in a row and the League Leaders Shield four years in a row.

Our work entails stripping off one pitch to a depth of 275mm and stock piling the spoil for use later. The pitch is uneven so we are laser-grading the formation level before re-spreading the top soil, importing and spreading 30mm of sand and ameliorating that into the soil and seeding.

The site of the St Helens training facility is shared with Cowley Language College and we shall be scarifying, verti-draining topdressing and over-sowing two additional pitches for them while we are there.

PS for the history buffs: St Helens RFC was founded in 1873, and moved to their current ground at Knowsley Road in 1890. They were founder members of the breakaway Northern Union in 1895, from which the 13-a-side game we know today evolved.

Going nicely at The Vale

Posted on: July 1, 2010 by normanmaitland posted in News

In one way or another we seem to have been involved at The Vale from the very beginning. Now a  truly world-class resort, The Vale is set in over 650 acres of stunning Welsh countryside and has become one of the UK’s leading destinations for family breaks, spa breaks, and golf breaks in Wales as well as being the training base for the Welsh Rugby Union, the Football Association of Wales and the Cardiff Blues.

This summer we’ve been involved in a number of activities on these practice pitches including sand slitting to The Blues training pitch, sand slitting to the WRU training pitch, oversowing, Topdressing of all rugby pitches, and  Korrowing, sandbanding and reseeding the FAW training pitch.

All the soil removed from theses operations were re-used to create formal lawns in the new residential development which is underway at The Vale. Work continues to the very high standards expected here and already, and already – as our picture shows,  there are already signs of new life coming through on the oversown pitches.
