It’s really taking shape at St Fagan’s

Previous postings have shown something of the scale of the project we’re undertaking in the creation of a new private garden in St Fagan’s. With the building of new stone walls to retain planting beds and the laying of a substantial area of natural stone it is now possible to get a sense of the structural beauty of the new design and the way in which it will perfectly complement the setting of the house. We hope to be laying turf here soon.

It’s all happening at The Vale this May: Parts I and II!

We’re delighted to be back at The Vale where we are currently undertaking two projects.

The first is the fraze mowing of the Cardiff City practice pitch which is located there, the second is to korro off and spread sand on the Welsh Rugby Union training pitch which is just a stone’s throw away.
We have undertaken work of this kind at what is now a world class venue since it opened its doors, and we feel proud to be a small part of it continuing success.

Back to school at Y Pant

Still keeping things slightly in the family, there was a collective sigh of contentment when we won the contract for pitch improvements at Y Pant School – two of Gareth’s children are pupils there so family pride was at stake!

We korrowed off 900 metres on one of the school pitches, drained the area since it was holding water and then returfed. Of course, we carefully control the quality of the work on all the many projects like this that we undertake, but we’d be only human if we didn’t confess to being extra careful with this one – life wouldn’t have been worth living if anything had been less than perfect!

A new pride and joy

Our managing director Gareth Rees bough this old tractor from Gerry Tomms manager at the Millennium Stadium two years ago when, it’s fair to say, it had seen better times.  It had to be lifted  off the trailer with a fork lift as it was not running and was a total wreck. Gareth’s father has spent the last two years working on the tractor and restoring it to its former glory. The McCormick 434 was made in Doncaster, South Yorkshire in 1964 so is older than Gareth but of course not older than his dad who clearly knows exactly what he is doing when it comes to restoring old machinery! The tractor is now ready for showing at local shows and looks set for a long and useful retirement which will give pleasure to a great many people - not least Gareth and his dad!

Lougher look forward

Regular readers might recall that we constructed an entirely new pitch for Lougher last year. Here we are again, this time sand banding another pitch to improve the drainage and thus the year round playability. This is one of many end of season projects that we have on the go at the moment, including a large project at the Reading Training Ground of which more details will be posted soon.

Bringing a new garden to life in St Fagans

The village of St Fagans lies on the River Ely about 5 miles from the centre of the City of Cardiff. We’re currently undertaking the construction of a large private garden there which has involved removing an existing tennis court and importing 300 tonnes of soil before we get started on bringing the design to life. We’re about half way through and will post more (and prettier!) pictures when we’re finished.
