A complete transformation at Bradford City

Posted on: June 28, 2010 by normanmaitland posted in News

In spite of the tightest access to the pitch imaginable we completed our summer renovation work (installing improved drainage, sand-slitting, Korrowing, scarifying and over seeding) at Bradford City FC without a hitch.

The first picture here shows just how difficult the access was: the dumper truck can only just squeeze through the gap between the uprights of the lighting pylon. Everything for the job had to go in and out through that gap. Despite the difficulties the work was completed on time and to a really high standard – witness the immaculate looking pitch in the picture below which was taken a couple of weeks after we had finished work.

Fantastic progress at Cowbridge School

Thanks to meticulous planning off-site and rigorous project management on-site work is going well at Cowbridge School where we are constructing the first Tiger Turf Challenger Carpet in South Wales to be approved for football, hockey and rugby.

As the new school building takes shape in the background, our picture shows the pitch more than half completed and the uprights for the lighting (which is being installed by Inscapes Electrical) in place. The area of hard standing in the foreground will be the site of the multi use games areas which are the next phase of our work there.

When completed this project will be a real showcase and, we hope, an excellent place for young sporting talent to flourish.

Signs of new life at Home Park

The Greens on Screen’s website is the kind of resource of which every club fan dreams.  A digital homage to Plymouth Argyle, the first page was published in January 1999 with the aim of bringing Plymouth Argyle a little closer to those unable to see their team. Its core themes – sights and sounds for ‘exiles’ - still stand.

The site has a comprehensive gallery of pictures describing our recent installation of the new Fibrelastic® pitch. The picture above, taken from their gallery, shows the first signs of life as the new pitch germinates and takes hold. You can see a breathtaking panormama of the all-but completed pitch here and see the rest of the gallery here. The entire project at Plymouth Argyle has gone like a dream and everyone associated with the project is very pleased with progress. All that remains for us to complete are the artificial grass areas around the touch line and the pitch will be ready for the new season: a first class facility for a club with a long and proud history.

All hands on deck (or, in this case, to the tractor!)

We’re snowed under with work at the moment on just about every conceivable kind of pitch in just about every part of the UK. This includes extensive remedial work at the WRU training facility in the Vale of Glamorgan where you might recognise the man in the cab.

Hats off to Tony Horne, formerly of the Wales national stadium (he played a key role in the transition from Cardiff Arms Park to the Millennium Stadium) and whose day job is actually to be our sales manager, doing a bit of sand-banding to help keep the project on schedule.

Tony is an expert in his own right on all aspects of pitch care and his opinion is sought after and valued by many sports venues. You can tell from the look on his face that he’s loving every minute of being back ‘on the tools’ – even if it is only for a short time!

Pitch improvements at Valley Parade

It is 25 years since the fire at the Valley Parade ground, home of Bradford City Football Club. That tragedy, described on the Club’s web site as ‘the day heaven turned to hell’, tore a scar across the hearts of both club and community.

In the intervening years the club has committed itself to a process of remembrance and ongoing renewal, the latest manifestation of this being a major pitch renovation which includes the installation of three drains, korrowing off, gravel banding, incorporating fibre sand into the pitch and re-seeding.

Work is going well and is due for completion by the end of the first week in June.
