Our Chief Executive is in Vancouver this week as part of a United Kingdom delegation to GLOBE 2010 - one of the world’s largest and longest-running events dedicated to the business of the environment.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase our specialist expertise across a range of activities in environmentally sensitive areas,” says Gareth. “There’s also the opportunity to make new contacts and to learn about new developments from across the world.”

Every two years over 10,000 professionals from 70+ countries come together at GLOBE for three days of thought-leading sessions presented by world-renowned sustainability experts and to survey leading-edge environmental innovations. All of which should help us offer an even better package in the future.

Gold Cup Fever

We were working on one of the enclosures at Cheltenham Racecourse just before the Festival. The project involved removing  320 square metres of turf before preparing and fertilising and re-turfing with 40mm thick cut turf.

Our picture shows the work almost complete under watchful eye of a bust of the late Queen Mother. The work was all straightforward enough except for having to do it with tight access around the hard surface and railings. Work was completed in two days ahead of the Cheltenham Festival. Oh, and our horse is still running!

Smoothing things over for Swansea City Council at Ynystawe Park

Ynynstawe Park in Swansea is a wonderful green space along the banks of the River Tawe offering a variety of facilities for all ages.  As well as the children’s play area, bowling green and tennis court the park also includes two football pitches, a basketball court and BMX and skate jumps.

The problem we were called in to tackle was a very uneven park area that was part of the cricket outfield which made safe and successful fielding highly problematical. The solution was to level and reseed prior to the start of this cricket season. Enter, from the pavilion end, Inscapes - complete with a power harrow, a bulldozer, a Harley rake and a drill. The job was completed in what seemed like  next to no time - with the additional benefit that the area can now be used as a football pitch when not being used as the cricket outfield.

Dig this!

We have just completed importing and constructing an area that will make 17 new allotments for Bridgend Council and V2C social housing at Pyle in Mid Glamorgan. The move follows the huge resurgence of interest in ‘grow your own’ as recession bites and as families become more interested in the provenance of their food.

We imported 1840t of topsoil over a period of 5 days with a 20t 360 Excavator on site the work  being completed by one man and the wagon drivers. This time next year local people will be living off the fat of the land – thanks in part at least - to Inscapes!
