The build up to the opening match had been an exciting experience, with Inscapes working closely with the Parc y Scarlet’s groundsmen. The pitch had been cut on average four days a week to ensure the appearance and playability was second to none in terms of quality.

This momentous day of the 15th November arrived and match day proved to be a busy and anxious time, everyone was waiting to see how well this new pitch would handle as it had only been sown five months earlier. The lines were marked on the pitch and the padding put around the posts, with the first of the teams coming out for the team photos followed closely by the blessing of the pitch.
Then the players of the Llanelli and Cardiff teams ran out, all booted and kitted up, the whistle blew and before we knew it half time had arrived. The pitch took scrums and re-sets with no problem what so ever, with just minor scuffs and hardly any kick out of root, an excellent start!

During the second half the rain started to fall which also makes a difference to the way the pitch handles. At the end of the match, Llanelli came off the pitch victorious and we were pleased with the condition of the pitch after it’s maiden game. The pitch was then inspected and cut (rotary mowers) to lift off any unwanted debris before the evening was over. A good end to a great first match day at the Parc y Scarlets!
