Due to an outbreak of root knot nematodes in the pitch at the Millennium stadium, which affects the quality of the stadium’s turf, the stadium manager Gerry Toms has decided to replace the pitch before the first autumn rugby international takes place against South Africa on 8th November.
The treatment of the existing turf would take a number of weeks and therefore there was no alternative but to replace the pitch.
Inscapes started work at the stadium yesterday and has already korrowed off the pitch and removed the contaminated soil from the stadium. We have today brought in some additional soil and are in the process of spreading this across the pitch area.

Inscapes has been continuing the environmental work at the Isle of Grain. Part of the pipeline has now been installed and we have re-instated the turf in this area. Further re-instatement work will continue once the remainder of the pipeline is installed.
Certain areas on the pipeline route are classed as ”special sites of scientific interest” and we therefore work with experts with a special understanding of these unique habitats and how they function to make sure the land is reinstated to its original condition.

Inscapes has been continuing the seed harvesting in the Pontardawe area, in conjunction with the environmental work we undertook with NACAP Land and Marine and the South Wales gas pipeline. Dry conditions are needed for the seed harvesting to take place in order that the brush mechanism of the machine can pick up the seed.
The seed and hay was collected and separated by the harvester then bagged by hand. Both the seed and hay were then reapplied to bare areas as part of our re-instatement work.

Inscapes has recently completed work at Holland Park school which is situated in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Staff rotorvated an area of over 1900 square metres, taking care not to damage visible tree roots and path edging, old tree stumps were also removed. Soil was spread on the area to produce final levels, fertilizer was spread over the area and turf was installed in big roll format, then staff finally rolled the area to finish.

National Grid is constructing a gas pipeline from the Isle of Grain to Shorne to ensure that natural gas can be transported from the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) importation terminal at the Isle of Grain to help meet the growing demand for gas supplies in London and the South of England.
Inscapes have recently started environmental work in conjunction with the Isle of Grain to Shorne pipeline. The turf was lifted to a depth of 300mm along the pipeline and translocation of this turf has now been completed.

Inscapes will then relocate the turf once the construction of the pipeline is completed, ensuring that the land is reinstated to its original condition. Updated news of this environmental work will be detailed on our website as the project progresses.

Now that the stadium pitch has been completed and growing well, our staff have been working on the Llanelli Scarlets training barn which is situated right next to the stadium itself.
Inscapes was involved with the final preparation of the ground at the barn, this included lazer levelling the stone base and then installing a brock shock pad. Finally the artificial carpet (Tiger Turf 65) was installed in the training barn and then top dressed with sand and rubber crumb. The project was completed within the agreed time scale.

The Inscapes charity golf day took place at the Celtic Manor on Monday of this week.
Twelve teams took to the Montgomerie course to play against each other for the cup. Everyone agreed that the course was outstanding even though it proved very challenging for some of the competitors! Thankfully the weather was not as bad as the weekend before and the golfers only had to contend with rain for a very short period whilst out on the course.

After the day’s play, everyone retired to the golf club (the nineteenth hole) for a meal and the presentations. Clive Sensier from the HSBC team won “Nearest the Pin” whilst Mike Brear from the Mansfield Sand team won “Longest Drive”. The Precedent team took third place in the team competition, narrowly being beaten into second place by the SG Services team (who were last year’s winners), but the winning team was Mansfield Sand; a great achievement as they have been close contenders for the cup over the past few years! Well done to all the winners and thanks to everyone who supported our charity golf day.
The profit from the day will be going to Heronsbridge School, Bridgend and once the final figure has been calculated we will be presenting a cheque to Chris Major and the staff at Heronsbridge, so keep checking the website for this news!

Work has now been completed at Chesfield Downs golf club.
It took nine of our staff ten days to complete the work at this golf club. We completed the final preparation work of the area using a harley rake and chain harrows and then installed 51,000 metres of turf in both 600mm and 1200mm roll size.

The driving range was closed for a week during this time as nets had to be removed for the work to be carried out. The driving range is in the shape of a bowl with steep banks to the rear of the range and this was therefore a challenging job. The bank areas were installed using the 600mm rolls as the areas were too steep to use the tractor and 1200mm machine.
Even though we haven’t had a very dry summer the challenge for the head green keeper was to get sufficient water onto the installed turf.
